Lots of people go vegan because they realise it is the best way to reduce their impact on the environment. This group is a place where ecological issues and veganism can come together.

*ahem*

i am a scientician in melbourne. my degree is in zoology and enviro science, but i have an unhealthy interest in nutrition and the lack of reliable scientific data being published in research journals. When I have time, i shred some of the more crapper studies into tiny little pieces on my blog veg health news

Do you know why vegans may still be at elevated risks of bowel cancer?
Or why we may not be getting enough omega 3?

veg health news

i write a blog discussing nutritional research pertaining to veg diets and crap. I haven't posted in a while because I've been busy but have some stuff in the pipeline. Anyway, there is so much rubbish reported in the news, my idea is to examine the science behind it and explain whether it should be taken seriously or not.

Thank you! I think water is one of the most precious things on earth and we shouldn't waste it.

I liked the big fatties - are those wombats? I think they are... They're so cute. Haha.

Wow, I didn't realise there was such a thing as a vegan capital. =P I guess London's the vegan capital of the UK. Boring. Melbourne sounds awesome for veggie stuff, though. Nope, I don't think we went to any veggie restaurants in the whole of Australia actually, even though the person I went with was also veggie. =/ It's hard to know of places like that if you're new to a place, though.

I love how Aussies put O on the end of all their words... =D Vego, arvo, barb... Damn it. Barbie.

York's lovely. It's a historic city but probably one of the smallest, greenest cities in the UK. Lots of parks and no skyscrapers that I can think of... It's REALLY touristy because it was one of the first places on the map that I know of and has a lot of Viking history so there's a Viking museum, which people queue for hours for and then it's just an exhibition that smells like... Vikings, I guess, and a Viking festival. A massive, beautiful cathedral, some really cute old cobbled streets, a river, lots of pubs... It's become really popular for hen nights and stag parties, for some reason, although it's not really a clubbing place. But as far as cities go, it's very quaint and safe and has a lovely atmosphere. Oh, and two universities.

How about Melbourne? What's good about where you live? =)

Nope. Muahahahahaha! I'm so smug about that. I hate exams. I'm guessing you have tons of them. =P Sciences are quite hands on, too, though, so it's a nice balance. I reckon it's just really hard work, right?

Oh we went to Newcastle. I think we just drove through it, though... Is it quite industrial?

Haha, yes we did! On Phillip [Philip?] Island? We have a shameful number of photos next to signposts with "The Nobbies" on them because we found that hilarious... Ha.

It was 2007. We were in Aus from September to December, travelling the whole of the East coast. Met someone in Sydney who lived on the Mornington Peninsula so we stayed there and just went to Melbourne for days out. It just strikes me as a cool city. =)

Sounds like you've got the best of both worlds being able to cook at work and do your science-y stuff too. Environmental science sounds so interesting. Fashion is kind of mind-numbing sometimes...

Hey. =) Thanks for accepting.

I study fashion design, although don't hold it against me. Haha. I want to bring ethics into fashion.

What do you do? I visited Melbourne on my gap year and loved it. If I was to live in any city in Aus, Melbourne would be the one! =)
