Ralph posted a blog postI'm a freelance writer, archaeologist and mad keen photographer and musician (I play the oboe, tin whistle and bodhran. I'm hoping to start studying for a PhD in historical archaeology in October.
I've been a vegan for 16 years or so. I grow much of my own food and am self-sufficient in potatoes, beans, onions, garlic, Jerusalem artichokes and whatever else survives my lack of horticultural expertise.

This year, in Nottingham, winter is slow to depart. That's frustrating, because the growing season is short enough in Britain, and my vegetables and I need sunshine! So far this year I've sown kale, carrots, spring onions, courgettes, aubergines, broccoli, turnips, cucumber, melon, peas, cauliflower, tomatoes, peppers, dill, parsley, terragon, sweetcorn, broad beans, wax beans, sunflowers and French beans. One lot of cucumber seedlings died, and the wax beans haven't germinated. Grrr! The…
