Vegan Around the World Network

Inspiring vegan & eco travel and promoting & encouraging local vegan movements

I´ve been having some trouble finding a job for years.
Now that I'm vegan I think it is even more complicated. The area where I could work gets reduced and now I feel I have ran out of options.
This is why I want to know:

What do other vegans do for living?

I salute you!

Hi Mariel

I'm a teacher. Have been a vegan for about 3 years now and was vegetarian for about 6 years before that. I have always been very honest about who I am with my class. I have to be a little careful not to get into trouble with parents for 'pushing my beliefs onto their kids' but if the children ask about my veganism, I tell them honestly. Have also been known to make vegan treats for them once in a while so they can see that see that there's nothing strange about vegan food....and in fact it's often better...especially the baked goods : )

What area are you looking to work in? Unless you're looking to work with food or animals, I'm not sure how your veganism should affect you getting a job?

I wish you all the best finding employment. I'm sure all the good you're doing by becoming vegan will pay off for you soon! Karma baby : )
Hi Nadine,
I studied food engineering.
I would love to work with animals, recently I had a job offer but the problem was that the animals raised there where meant to be killed later...
And looks like where I live now I have little options to choose from. Work as a waiter is one option but only if the restaurant is vegan for example. Although I would like to do something more meaningful with my life.
I feel like i´m running out of time.

Thanks for your reply!

If you studied Food Engineering you should be able to find a niche in sustainable food, right?

Just steer clear of some of the nasty GMO stuff.

Hi,

I am a web developer and also a life coach and NLP practitioner.

I would love to concentrate more on my life coaching.

Hope you find what you want to do.

Hi, I work as a trainee Veterianry Nurse, i started before i was vegan when i was veggie.. im sure some would say its not a "vegan job" but i have saved animals from being put to sleep for being stray or wildlife so thats good. I can honistly say in the 5 years i have done it i have only ever meet 1 other vegan nurse and never a vegen vet..which is strange i think!
My roomie is vegan- she works at a vet clinic and is on her way to being a certified vet tech.  You aren't alone :)
Lots of different things for sure in my lifetime of veganism. Actor, manager, consultant, teacher, professor, guide, gardener, construction worker, and on and on. The most important thing is do what you love. Combine it with your philosophy and your spiritualness and you will be home free forever!
its very hard when you're not qualified to do a professional job like all the ones people have mentioned eh!
I totally agree with you.
I am a nurse and I have been a vegan for only a few months. It is hard to see sick people everyday and know that the diets we have been consuming for years is likely a large part of the problem. I can not tell people to eat differently then what their dieticians are saying. I wish I could help people get off the insulin but alas they need to be under medical supervision. I do inhome assessments for the provincial government for publicly funded services.
I am so ready for a carreer change but not sure what to do. I dream of owing my own store someday, health food maybe, or working on a farm sanctuary, I don't know but for now I have to kids in post secondary school so need a steady paycheck :) I look forward to what I can do in the future.
i own a produce company. i sell fruits and vegetables wholesale at a terminal market near san francisco, the first stop for produce coming in from the fields.

i sell to stores, institutions, restaurants and individuals, and i have several trucks for making deliveries to those places. i love my work and i love what i get to eat. i have been doing it for over 20 years, been vegetarian for that long, and vegan for 4 years now.

best of luck to you,

paul
