What does a vegan do for living? What do you do?

I´ve been having some trouble finding a job for years. 
Now that I'm vegan I think it is even more complicated. The area where I could work gets reduced and now I feel I have ran out of options. 
This is why I want to know: 

What do other vegans do for living?

What kind? An animal rescue centre? Sounds like a very fulfilling occupation.

I have worked a ton of minimum wage jobs- they are awful, so for the time being I am a student instead.  I eke by on my student loans and in a few months I will have an associates and in 4? more years I will have a masters in history and can teach at a community college.  I love being a student.  If you have the option, you should do it :)

I'm an archaeologist and writer. No problem being vegan in either occupation, although I have to be careful nevertheless -  animal products creep surrepticiously into almost any walk of life!

I work as a kitchen hand in a vegetarian resaurant while I study environmental science majoring in wildlife conservation biology.

One day I'll have a really cool job, for now I just wash dishes and make pizzas haha

I am a teacher, and a photographer.  Photographers don't have to use gelatin anymore, which is a relief.  I've been hard core veg*n for twenty years, plus.  The only hard part about being a teacher is when they contaminate the room after pulling the meat out of their sandwiches.  I insist on hand washing/santizer when going to and coming from lunch.  The only other problem is when the dairy board sends beautiful but biased materials, and I just can't go along with it.  It came complete with a DVD with a character named, "Coco-lait."  For you non-Francaphones out there, they mean chocolate milk. Yeah, that's main character's name. 

I always used to bring food from Whole Foods and Trader Joes, and the kids eventually started to love it. That was when I was in America.  Here, in Canada, the schools are more strict about including healthy balanced meals.

Man i said it before and i'll say it again - you guys all have specialist jobs! Its bloody hard when you're just looking for general jobs! You have to give in a bit sometimes if you dont wanna be on benefits. I'm looking into being a care worker now though im sure i'll have to cook people meat in their meals. Either that or sign on!

People of certain religious backgrounds don't eat meat.  Stick an Ad up in those places of worship.  But check to make sure you don't need to be a registered PSW first.

If you have a talent- go with that.  I taught myself photography, Greek, and the violin.

But it is difficult to get a job now, even with degrees.  I suggest you at least take a training course.  The PSW program is short and available more and more as the baby boomers age.  There's no easier way.  You hae to work hard to get a good job!

As a side note, I looked after my 94 year-old grandmother and she loved all of the veg*an food I made.

haha i live in cornwall - its pretty much just christians or catholics here! maybe some druids n pagans to. im not doing this work yet anyway but i got an interview on friday. its just i been looking for other work so long n nothing, i did a qualification in computer hardware cos i want to be a computer technician really but it hasn't helped much. im done with college n all that though! my life doesn't revolve around what job i have though, i care much more about being creative etc etc... i was just saying that when you are looking for general jobs its hard. just funny how everyone here has specialist jobs cos i think some people just dont really understand hard it is living a 'hardcore vegan' life for some people. that aint meant to sound shitty or anything, just sayin! also its kinda crap how gelatin was used in the old photo process, digital photos are good in their own way but the old ones had something about them that digital doesn't.

Dear EpiTone,

Your tone sounds extremely frustrated.  I understand this, as I went two years without work, and then made $12 an hour teaching French. 

I have to disagree with you about people here not understanding how hard it is to be hardcore vegan.  I think we all know, and that's why we are here: to help each other out. 

 

We do not all get the luxury of being creative on our jobs.  I am blessed with that luxury, though.  You haven't really said what you are passionate about.  I can't tell your age because your on-line writing is terrible. However, I can look past it and see your intelligence. 

I have never been to Cornwall, so I don't know what is available there, but I do know that when I couldn't find a job in Toronto, I moved to New York for 5 years and lived very well there.  I am currently unemployed too, so I am praying/ and/or thinking positively for us both.

Good luck with your interview tomorrow.  Try to be formal, and not too non-chalant. Dress very nicely and pull your hair neatly back.  Talk clearly, without slang, superfluous words or stuttering, and with confidence. Just this once.  You have to adapt to the world, because Cornwall will not adapt to you. Sometimes you have to fake it 'til you make it.  I would never work if I didn't do that.  And now I'm very happy I did! :)

you're probably right about people understanding to...

 

music is the thing i really love but it's not like you can just go out there and make money with it just like that so i have to look for general jobs if i cant find a computer engineer job. i am very lazy with how i write on forums on the internet yes, i can actually write pretty well when i want to but i just write in a lazy quick way on forums as its not like im applying for a job or anything! im pretty sure what i write is still legible unless you've lived in an upper class bubble all your life!

 

also i meant cornwall in england, its nice scenery down here but pretty dead for most other things, very high unemployment down here so you cant be to fussy really :/ but thanks, hopefully we'll both find something ay :)

 

i know what you're saying and you're right that it would improve my chances but while i will be formal and well spoken i wont pretend im someone other than me, its something that matters to me a lot and i know it doesn't help me in some ways, but as i said, its important to me. cheers!
